All around the world right now, millions of young people are marching on the streets to demand a just transition to a sustainable, natural, ecologically secure world. We need to help them.

1.5Billion lives

Depend upon Himalayan glacier water.

Everyone will be affected by climate change and ecological collapse, but the global south as is so often the case, will suffer most.

1.5 Billion people depend on six rivers that are fed entirely by the Himalayan glaciers. No glaciers, no summer water flows. No summer water flows - no food.

That is no food, for1.5 Billion people.

If the suffering of so many is not of concern to you, not enough reason to join the call to action, then I ask you this: Do You think those 1.5 billion starving people will just stay there? All food will be affected.

Arctic Loss

The Arctic is warming up to three times faster than the global average

A recent study suggests the total annual ice loss for Antarctica is around 159 Gigatons. To grasp how much ghat is you need to understand what a Gigaton is.

In the International System of Units, the prefix “giga” means 10 to the ninth power, or one billion (1,000,000,000). Thus, a gigaton is equivalent to a billion metric tons.

A male African elephant weighs at most 7 metric tons, according to the San Diego Zoo. So a gigaton is well over a hundred million African elephants.

We're talking about the equivalent of billions of elephants in water volume entering the oceans each year, thus the flooding and sea level rises we are seeing worldwide.

rivers

Rivers annually emit between 1.15 and 2.41 million metric tons of plastic to the oceans.

80% of river plastic pollution entering the world's oceans stem from 1000 rivers.

Orangutan

There are now only

Orangutans have lost well over 80% of their habitat in the last 20 years.

If we do not act now there will soon be nowhere left for orangutans to live. The main threats to their survival are our use of palm oil, deforestation, poaching and hunting.

While Orangutans habitats are affected by numerous human activities, nothing compares to the amount of land being bulldozed by palm oil plantations right now. Palm plantations destroy thousands of hectares in pursuit of massive profits that cost the lives of many highly intelligent and endangered orangutans.

Recent headlines reported how one palm oil firm hunted down orangutans while expanding their cash crop production.

Government are meant to control heavy industry and help to protect natural resources, habitats and animal populations, but in recent years many of the most harmful human activities have been carried out with full government knowledge, open involvement or unofficial support.

We must stop this.

Our best chance of stopping the cascading collapse in ecosystems that current economic practice is leading to is by helping these children. Many believe natural ecosystems are linear in their behaviour, but this is simply not true. Linear behaviours are the macroscopic effect of a well balanced system in harmony.

90% of the human food chain depends upon bee pollinators.

Orangutan

Over 100,000 Bornean orangutans killed between 1999 and 2015

The Bornean population of Orangutans was monitored by an international team of conservationists who compiled one of the most comprehensive reports yet on the animals, which in 2016 were declared “critically endangered” by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

“I expected to see a fairly steep decline, but I did not anticipate it would be this large,” said Serge Wich, a co-author on the report at Liverpool John Moores University.

“When we did the analyses, we ran them again and again to figure out if we had made a mistake somewhere. You think the numbers can’t be that high, but unfortunately they are.”

The Foundation Of Food

90% of the human food chain depends upon bee pollinators. Bees perform about 80% of all pollination worldwide. If you like fruit, nuts and vegetables you should care about bees.

The U.S lost over 40% of its honeybees last year, and this has been an increasing annual trend since we started studying bee population collapses in 2006. Some U.S beekeepers reported collapses of 90% in their bee colonies last year.

This year the Russian Government states that over 39,600 bee colonies in the country completely collapsed (meaning they cannot recover).

In 2017 the United Nations warned that 40 per cent of invertebrate pollinators - particularly bees and butterflies - risk global extinction, yet the main cause of their collapse (artificial insecticides and chemical fertiliser) has not been banned.

Sustainability is the only growth model that can work, because by definition, everything else is unsustainable.

69 of the richest 100 entities on the planet are corporations, not governments.

“We are essentially destroying the very life support systems that allow us to sustain our existence on the planet, along with all the other life on the planet,” Lister said. “It is just horrifying to watch us decimate the natural world like this.”
